Evaluation

Lab Assignment One

1.  Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)?
                2 - Very Little Knowledge

2.  Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)?
4 - I know enough to teach someone else

3.   Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)?
                5 - Strongly Agree

4.   What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
A little more background or categories on what surveying actually is may help to connect what these methods are used for in real life.  Background about methods used in the real life would have helped us form a better understanding of why we were doing what we were doing.

Lab Assignment Two

1.   Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)?
1 - No Knowledge at all

Background information about what interpolation does and why we do interpolations in GIS would have been helpful before doing this assignment.  Also, information on why there are different types of interpolation methods and what they are useful for would have been helpful.

Lab Assignment Three

              4 - Agree

4.   What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
This assignment was very open ended.  We were not given a lot of direction on how to go about finding the information needed to complete this task.  I can understand where that would be useful for many situations, but I had close to no background information about unmanned aerial system and the sensors you can attach to them.

Lab Assignment Four

1.   Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)?
             3 - Some knowledge

I know the timing is not perfect for learning how to use these tools, but this exercise would have been much easier if there weren't so much snow on the ground.  That way we could have also explored more options with the attributes given to each feature.  This would make for a more interesting map that could show much more data in one display.

Lab Assignment Five

1.   Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)?
             4 - A good amount of knowledge

I just wish that we could use these maps right away in the field, but the snow is not going to let that happen.  That way we could apply our new knowledge right away.  We may need a refresher on basic orienteering skills and use of a compass by the time the snow is all gone.

Lab Assignment Six

1.   Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at all, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)?
             3 - Some Knowledge

I thought the way this topic was introduced was very effective.  The in-class demo helped students see exactly what the domains should look like and exactly where we can go to set them.

Lab Assignment Seven

Before this class, I had only briefly heard the term unmanned aerial system.  I had no idea really what that meant or what they could do.  Seeing all of the equipment being used in the field made me realize just how much one individual can do with little effort, and sometimes little money.

Lab Assignment Eight - Topcon Total Survey Station

3 - I know enough to repeat what I did

3.   Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)?
              4 - Agree

4.   What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I wish we would have had more time to use this piece of equipment.  I know there was not much time for this, but I feel like if we would have done another survey using the Topcon Total Station, we would have been able to troubleshoot our own problems better and be able to do it faster.  It would have also been helpful to have a video showing how to actually collect points in the GMS-2 and what the map screen should look like.
